The PlayStation Portable or the PSP was released in 2005 and was Sony’s entry into the portable gaming world. It was available for around 10 years and sold 80 million units and was replaced by the PlayStation Vita. With shipments of PSPs ending in 2014 it’s had just enough time now that there’s nostalgia around it and people are remembering why they loved it today on Twitter. So let’s take a look at what some people are saying about it and some of the memories people have of it.
Dunno why the PSP is trending but Im cool with it. I loved my PSP, i would actually import games for it like Dissidia, MM Dash and Digimon Adventure. I also got to try diffrent games and games I missed in the past, i wish PSP games could get ported some how pic.twitter.com/ZDSmPowhT9
It’s been a 7 year wait but fans have finally got the chance to experience the sequel to the masterpiece of a game The Last of Us and opinions have been divisive to say the least. Critics and fans alike seem to be impressed with the gameplay, graphics and overall atmosphere of the game but the story and the fate of certain characters has many people upset. Some of the reason people give for being disappointed in the game are very valid, others…well not so much…As a huge fan of the first game I really wanted to go in depth and talk about why, although not a perfect game by any means, The Last of Us 2 is not the total shit show everyone is making it out to be.
I suppose I’ll start with the aspect of the game that most people were relatively happy with, that being the game-play, graphics and overall look and feel of the game. The graphics are top notch and a testament to the PS4’s capabilities and will only get nicer with the PS5 release of the game. The amount of small details Naughty Dog goes out of their way to include is amazing. The animations upon killing an enemy are just plain brutal and practically have you feeling the pain of it and the controls are basically the same great controls from the first game with a few updates to make things even more seamless. There are plenty of good things to be said about the game but most of the attention the game is getting is for things people don’t like about the game, so let’s get into that aspect now.
The story is where many feel the game fell short and I can certainly agree with that to some degree. The main plot point that is upsetting fans is the horribly brutal death of Joel, not only do a lot of people feel they shouldn’t have killed Joel but many also feel they didn’t have to kill him off in the way they did, many people feel they disrespected not only Joel but the fans that fell in love with him and Ellie from playing through the first game. I personally feel his death gave players a reason to play again, before that point in the game you have no clear goal, nothing really driving the story forward, I however don’t agree with how they killed Joel off, he should have gone out fighting as that was the Joel we all knew, a fighter and survivor but Naughty Dog chose to kill him off in a way that very much was disrespectful to the character. I can fully understand people being upset about this but I don’t agree that this ruined the story, not all good stories have happy endings and Joel’s fate doesn’t change the fact that this story was an emotional rollercoaster, it evoked real emotions from us, whether good or bad that is what a good story should do.
Another aspect of the story a lot of people hated was the ending, Ellie with revenge within her grasp, after everything she’s gone through and everyone she’s lost, just decides to let Abby live and walks away from it all. As much as I was looking forward to killing Abby after what she did to Joel, once you play through her part of the game and understand her side of things it’s pretty clear to see she isn’t the bad guy, sure everyone is upset she killed Joel, but if we hadn’t all played as him in the original game he would obviously have been the antagonist, it’s our attachment to Joel and Ellie that has blinded some people and made them miss the fact that this is actually an amazing story, you have two sides to the story, two people that start out motivated by revenge alone, as we play through their respective stories and watch them each lose one person after another because of their obsession with vengeance an ending where they both realize it will never stop unless they stop it makes total sense to me, they each learned that killing won’t bring anyone back and violence only begets violence. I also feel that Naughty Dog left room for another sequel, which I’m cautiously excited for already, maybe this isn’t the end to the story…and that fact gives this ending even more hope.
One other complaint people have about the game is that it’s too focused on LGBT stuff and that Naughty dog went overboard trying to make it an inclusive game, I don’t feel this is a valid complaint at all and therefor won’t be giving it much thought here, you want realism in your games? guess what? Gay people exist in the real world…get over it, there is one gay couple in the whole fucking game and if that bothers you for some reason then the problem lies with you not with the game…grow up or go play Fortnite…so in the end is it a perfect game? not in the slightest and it’s by no means as great as the original but it doesn’t deserve even a fraction of the hate that it’s getting…I’d give it a 7/10 which these days we’re lucky to get, most games that come out these days are incomplete and full of bugs, The Last of Us 2 was well worth the $60 price tag and honestly , you can’t say that about many games these days, so give it the credit it deserves at least.
Maybe it’s just me but I feel like most months I’m lucky if even one decent game I might enjoy is released and even then , these days most games are released with tons of bugs and patches needed. This month there are quite a few promising releases, so let’s go over them and hope they live up to the hype once released.
There has been a lot of hype around Death Stranding for a long time now and for good reason, the legend himself Hideo Kojima is involved and typically any game he puts his hands on ends up a masterpiece. It is Kojima’s first game since he left Konami back in 2015 and he promises to bring his unique storytelling method into this new game. Death Stranding is an open world action game that according go Kojima himself, will explore the connections between life and death. With talent like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen involved Death Stranding is sure to be on a lot of Christmas lists this year and comes out for PS4 on November 8, 2019, although with games these days it could still end up delayed, so fingers crossed we get to play it this month.
When Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was released there was a lot of anger over the whole microtransaction aspect of the game but the game wasn’t horrible by any means. With the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order I for one think that Star Wars games will be redeemed as the game looks super promising. It’s a single player action-adventure game set after the event of the film Revenge of the Sith and puts players in control of a young Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis as he tries to escape the clutches of the Galactic Empire. I have found two different release dates for the game , it’s either November 11 or November 15, 2019 and will be released on not only PS4 but Xbox One and PC as well.
I’ve never been a fan of these games but I know there are a ton of people that absolutely love them and I can appreciate that. The Rhythm Dance game follows the same formula as it’s past entries with of course , updated music and it will be the first of the games to be released for Google Stadia. Some of the artists included in the game are Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Billie Eilish, Skrillex and Justin Bieber plus a ton of other great artists. Just Dance 2020 actually came out today November 5, 2019 so if this is your thing you can buy it right now.
Amazingly this is the 24th entry into the Need For Speed series and will celebrate the 25th anniversary for the series. A racing game like all of the rest of the series Need For Speed Heat is sure to deliver more endless fun and intense racing to fans and newcomers alike. The game will feature 127 automobiles from 33 different manufacturers and is set to be released on November 8, 2019.
The sixth title in the series Romancing SaGa 3 and was originally released in Japan way back in 1995, Wii in 2010 and Wii U in 2014. In 2018 Square Enix announced that Romancing SaGa 3 would be coming out for multiple platforms in 2019. The game is like most other RPGs from the 90’s but with a unique level up system and giving you a choice of 8 playable characters at the start of the game as well as allowing you to discover and recruit new characters as you play through the game. The remaster will be released on November 11, 2019 for pretty much every platform and is perfect for those of us feeling nostalgic for an old school RPG with a modern feel.
Developed by Three Rings and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Tokyo Ghoul: re Call To Exist is an action survival game based on the manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida which is set in a world partly populated by Ghouls, which look just like any other person with one exception, they feed on human flesh to survive. The game will be released for PS4 and Microsoft Windows on November 15, 2019.
The series that has garnered a cult following over the years gets it’s latest release with Shenmue III and is sure to give fans another great game. Shenmue III will continue the story of Ryu Hazuki’s attempt to discover who murdered his father in 1980’s China. The single player action adventure game is due to be released for PS4 and Windows on November 19, 2019 and will certainly be one of the big sellers this month.
The fourth entry in the Sniper: Ghost Warrior series the gameplay will be similar to past entries but will not be an open world this time around. The FPS game will put players in control of Seeker, a paid assassin hired to complete contracts and the game is set in Siberia, Russia this time around. Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts is set to be released on November 22, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Every month Playstation rewards their PS Plus subscribers with a couple of free games to add to their library, typically these games are ones you probably wouldn’t have purchased and often aren’t even worth downloading for free but the month of November has a couple great offerings and reminds us that once in a while Playstation tosses us some goodies for free. You can snag these games starting tomorrow, November 5, 2019.
The first offering is the action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja. The game takes place in the 1600’s and follows the adventures of an Irish Sailor named William as he pursues an evil sorcerer named Edward Kelley. the games action and fighting mechanics have been compared to that of Dark Souls and the game has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. there is currently a sequel in the works. Get this game for free with PS Plus starting tomorrow and it’s yours forever as long as your plus is active.
The other option for PS Plus members this month is the Survival Horror game Outlast 2. A sequel to the first Outlast game released in 2013, Outlast 2 follows a journalist and his wife as they try to solve the death of a pregnant woman in the Arizona desert. following the “Found Footage” formula as the first game did this sequel puts you in control of a protagonist who finds himself in a horrific situation and has to find a way to survive it. I have not played either of these games myself but have heard great things from friends and from what I can gather if you’re a fan of Resident Evil games then you will most likely enjoy this game as well. Get it for free starting tomorrow with PS Plus.
Of course you still have the rest of today to snag the free games from last month which were The Last Of Us Remastered and MLB The Show 2019. You might as well grab them and add them to your library for a later date when you run out of games to play.
