Tyler Joseph Of Twenty One Pilots Faces Backlash After “Insensitive” Tweet

The front man for Twenty One Pilots Tyler Joseph isn’t someone you usually hear too much controversy about but he’s facing backlash today due to a tweet he made yesterday in which some people felt he was insensitive to the #BLM movement…I’ll show the tweet below but honestly in my opinion it’s a whole lot of fuss over nothing…he made a joke, it wasn’t racist or sexist…it was simply a play on the word platform and you can tell by reactions on Twitter that many people are angered …here’s the tweet:

As you can see he didn’t reference #blm and was simply making a joke about his crazy platform shoes…people need to chill the out these days and worry about stuff that actually matters…it’s clear he meant no ill will towards anyone with the tweet but people still seem pretty angered by it.

Of course as it always happens with cancel culture in full force these days he would surely have to issue an apology on social media…right? Not so much, although he did have a response, it was more explaining himself than apologizing and that set people off even more…He decided to use his platform to talk about suicide prevention rather than BLM and for that he faced further backlash.

Is Black Lives Matter important? yes, very much so but is it the only thing that matters? not even close, people, even celebrities, have a right to use their platform or not use it for whatever causes they see fit…we live in a society now where if someone donates money to a charity they still get grief for not donating enough…you will never make everyone happy so I’m glad he didn’t even try to…here’s some of his tweets:

Suicide prevention is a very important issue to touch on, especially this time of year with Winter coming soon lots of people sink into depression and need to hear messages like this one. Every tweet can’t be about #BLM and it’s perfectly fine that he isn’t bringing it up.

Everyone is aware of Black Lives Matter, there are protests to remind anyone that forgets everyday…there is room for us to care about other things as well…he did nothing wrong here.

But I guess those 800,000 people don’t matter because they aren’t part of the #BLM movement…I honestly don’t understand why people can’t care about both…it’s shameful to shame him for focusing on suicide prevention rather than the cause you want him to focus on…this is clearly what is important to him right now…so let him speak on it and help whoever he might be able to help.

As you can imagine with the world the way it is these days, people had lots of opinions and certainly weren’t going to keep them to themselves.

He made a joke about platform shoes and then used his platform to bring awareness to mental health issues…you hint at it in your tweet man….most people that “bring awareness” pretty much do it because it’s trendy..if the mental health stuff is what’s on his mind right now, why should he force a #blm tweet just to appease the masses?

Exactly, he wasn’t joking about not using his platform for #blm, he was joking about not using it for any issues at all…then he used it to bring attention to an issue he is clearly dealing with in his life right now…I don’t understand the anger, I really don’t…

As someone who has suffered from Bipolar Disorder for 25 years I find it incredibly disheartening to see that people like myself can’t reach out for help or speak on our issues without being accused of not caring about other issues…it’s sad to see so many people clearly take the stance that people like me and our issues just aren’t as important as BLM…I think there’s room to care about both but hey, maybe that’s just me. It’s hard enough for people dealing with mental health issues to reach out for help, certainly doesn’t make it any easier to see a celebrity attacked for it.

What are your thoughts…was the joke too much?

It’s Whitney Houston’s Birthday and Fans Are Remembering Her on Twitter

Today marks what would have been the legendary singer’s 57th birthday and fans have not forgotten about her, the world lost an amazing voice the day Whitney Houston was tragically taken from us but her voice and music lives on and she is still to this day considered one of the greatest voices in music history.

Let’s take a look at what fans are remembering about her today on Twitter…Happy birthday Whitney!!

She was one of the great singers of my childhood and teen years…hearing her songs really brings me back to a better time.

A pretty great little compilation right here that someone put together.

Now I can’t get her music out of my head but I consider that a blessing…

Whitney Houston had many different looks but her beauty remained consistent.

Sad to say I never did get to see her in concert but her music still gives me goosebumps to this day.

She really was soooo talented, one hit after another for her entire career basically.

Great time to check out the BET special on her for sure.

My favorite song is probably Where Do Broken Hearts Go…

What about you, what’s your favorite Whitney Houston song?

Azealia Banks Has Fans Worried After An Alarming Instagram Post

Our mental health can be a fragile thing and celebrities aren’t immune to the same feelings that some of us get from time to time and that seems to be the case with Azealia Banks recently as she posted to her Instagram story today saying “Yea, I think I’m done here. This pandemic, extreme lack of social interaction, no intimacy, combined with constant public ridicule is making life harder than its worth.” which perhaps more of us than we want to admit can relate to in these trying times. She also went on to add  “I’m not begging for attention or asking for sympathy/empathy……I’m just ready to go. Peacefully of course. My soul is tired. I’m ready to go. I will document my last times and release a film for you all to finally understand me, from my perspective. I will try my best to finish the project I promised beforehand. With whatever strength left.” and understandably her fans are extremely worried about her and the state of her mental health.

I’m writing this not so much as a concerned fan but as someone with empathy for what she is feeling as my Bipolar disorder often leaves me feeling the same struggles to find joy and happiness in life…You see people open a dialogue about mental health when stuff like this happens and I suppose that’s a great thing and all but it often fades away fast after the situation isn’t big news anymore…You saw it with Kanye West recently, everyone acting so concerned for a couple days and then you just don’t hear about it anymore.

As a society we need to remove the stigmas attached to mental illness and normalize talking about it and admitting to these kinds of thoughts before they get to this extreme point where you just feel helpless and like there is no other answer but suicide. I hope this situation sheds some light onto the issues some people are dealing with right now…We live in a crazy world and it affects us all differently…As you can imagine her fans and the public in general are quite concerned about her statement, let’s take a look at what people are saying on Twitter.

Many are taking the opportunity to point out her flaws and why she isn’t a good person but now isn’t the time for that…human life is precious, no matter whose it is.

You know you can hate everything about someone but you still shouldn’t wish these kinds of feelings on anyone…sometimes you just need to put that hate away.

Yup that’s the kind of people we should all surround ourselves with, not the people that view this situation as a chance to kick someone while they’re down.

People that can joke about mental illness are the worst kind of people…

The public tend to forget that celebrities have feelings just like the rest of us and that mental illness knows no bounds and can affect anyone.

Here’s a grab of her Instagram post…It really is heartbreaking to read because I’ve been there so many times and know that hopeless feeling well.

But as you can see there is still plenty of ignorance about mental health issues with some feeling success should afford you more empathy???

Yes mental illness is very much real and people dealing with it should be given nothing but sympathy and understanding.

I actually haven’t seen any concrete proof that she is Bipolar, these kinds of feelings can be attributed to many different mental health issues and unless she’s been properly diagnosed it is dangerous to just blame it all on Bipolar Disorder…she very well may have Bipolar Disorder, I just don’t know for sure.

Anyways that’s where I’ll leave it for now, most people are concerned for her well being as they should be but as you could see there are people that just are incapable of sympathy or empathy and sadly those kinds of people will always exist.

Two Teens Reacted to Phil Collins and Bridged the Generation Gap Through Love of Music

It seems like almost everything in the news these days is specifically designed to be divisive and cause us all to argue and hate each other…So I decided I’d cover something positive today…A story about coming together rather than falling apart.

Two teens (Twinsthenewtrend) reacting to Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight has gone viral for the best reason ever, because for once everyone is in agreement on something…Phil Collins is a master musician and his music can be appreciated by everyone of all ages.

I’ll put the original video of them reacting below as well as sharing some of the tweets people are putting out in response to it…for once let’s all just be happy and enjoy some good music.

As you can say it was the drums dropping that really made them pay attention, it’s nice to see a new generation discovering such an epic song.

They’re a pretty popular reaction channel and seem to know how to market it correctly as well.

Yes, I’ve loved this song pretty much my whole life and it’s amazing to get to see someone hear it for the first time…need more reaction channels like this.

I feel like I probably made the same face the first time I heard it too.

I’m almost jealous that there are people that still will get to hear this song for the first time…such an amazing tune.

Shhhh don’t talk about cassettes you’ll give our age away…

So many other good songs by him people should listen to as well.

It really is an interesting story behind the song and this article is a good little read.

Snoop Dogg Is Battling DMX Tonight On Verzuz And People On Twitter Are Picking Sides

Rap Battles can be really fun to watch and when you have two powerhouses of the industry like Snoop and DMX going up against each other it’s going to draw a lot of attention. With the two set to battle tonight on Verzuz people on Twitter are giving their takes on who will win and why.

I have my money on Snoop but let’s take a look at what Twitter has to say about it.

Some people think it’ll be no contest and DMX has it in the bag.

While others think Snoop’s got this easy.

Fans of both are so sure their favorite will win.

I agree I’m with Snoop Dogg on this one, he brought the old school into the new school.

Agreed, I think it will be super close.

It’s certainly going to be a good time.

Will you be tuning in?

Who do you think will win?

Why Dave Chappelle Visiting Kanye West Renews My Faith In Humanity

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Mathieu Bitton/REX/Shutterstock (9010401ac) Dave Chappelle Dave Chappelle in concert, Radio City Music Hall, New York, USA – 19 Aug 2017

Kanye West has been in the news a lot lately and plenty of people have plenty to say about him and I’m sure a lot of his “friends” are distancing themselves from him right now but not Dave Chappelle, he’s there with Kanye west when perhaps Kanye needs a friend most.

I’m no medical expert and I don’t know Kanye West’s medical history but he has stated he has Bipolar Disorder and as someone who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 25 years ago I fully believe him. I can see it in him when he makes these statements that seem to mean so much to him and seem so profound to him and the rest of us just don’t see it that way…See the thing with a manic phase of Bipolar Disorder is that while you’re in it you feel great, unstoppable and invincible but the thing is most of the time you can’t recognize that you’re in one of these phases, this is where good friends that you trust come in, you need them to be straight up with you and tell you you’re fucking up your life or trust me you will make bad decisions and fuck up your life.

I’m not a huge fan of Kanye West but I don’t have anything against him either, I really hope the people close to him recognize that these Manic episodes will eventually end in a huge comedown and depression at some point, I’m a huge fan of Dave Chappelle and I’m glad to see Kanye West has real friends that will tell him how it is because that’s how you help someone in that situation, you don’t enable them and placate illusions of grandeur, it’s dangerous and can end badly once the mania is gone.

All the stuff lately about Kanye aside, the presidential campaign and the Harriet Tubman comment I hope that he is getting the help he needs because Bipolar is not something to be taken lightly and if that is what’s going on with him then he needs the help that friends like Dave Chappelle will be there to give him.

What are your thoughts on the whole thing? let us know in the comments 🙂

Nick Cannon Makes Controversial Statements and Gets Canceled

With the term “Damn Nick” trending on Twitter some people might be wondering why. Well it is to do with statements Nick Cannon made on his radio show. He went a bit of a rant about melanin and how people lacking it lack compassion and are “the real savages”. The backlash from his comments lost him his job on Wild n’ Out. The reactions are mixed on Twitter but what really gets to me is the people supporting him and his comments. I have never been anything but an ally in the fight against racism, I’m a 41 year-old white man but my family is a real American family, a bit of a melting pot basically…To see POC agree with Nick Cannon that basically all white people are evil and less than because of the color of our skin…This whole thing really pisses me off because I don’t have a racist bone in my body and to be grouped in with racist cops and the KKK and all of that just because I’m white is no different than the cops assuming someone is a criminal because they are black…neither is okay and if you agree with his statements you are just as bad as those cops…anyways I’ll get on with the tweets.

If we want to end racism we also have to end double standards.

Really? Explain to me how I’m racist and lack compassion because my ancestors owned slaves…or explain how I’m a savage because I lack Melanin

Referring to any group of people as savages based solely on the color of their skin is wrong…two wrongs don’t make a right.

Wondering the same thing as I sit here and eat peanut butter cups…savagely of course.

Agreed, he even went after Jewish people…they’ve dealt with their own atrocities throughout history, maybe leave them out of your racist rants.

Yes freedom of speech exists but not freedom of penalties for that speech…

Freedom of speech not freedom of consequences for that speech.

Sad to think that POC sit around and say this type of stuff all the time…

Except calling all white people and Jews isn’t a truth at all…

Agreed very stupid indeed.

Upset to discover today that a lot of POC think all white people are just like Donald Trump…

Here’s the blatantly racist clip that started it all…

That’s where I’m going to leave things off because the more I read these comments the less faith I have in humanity as a whole.

People On Twitter are Nostalgic about Myspace Here’s What They Had To Say

I hop on Twitter every day to check trending topics and decide what to write about, one thing I never thought I’d see trending is Myspace but low and behold it’s trending today. For those that don’t know Myspace was the king of social media before Facebook or Twitter or any of these other sites, without Myspace none of them would exist. Well it seems people are finding themselves missing the old school social media site and feeling just a little bit nostalgic, let’s check out some of the tweets.

If you used Myspace then you were friends with good ole Tom.

Would be nice to see it make a comeback.

Many want to see the site come back to it’s former glory.

It’s funny because Myspace is where I started to learn to code.

Think I’ll go check out my old page after I finish writing this.

Reading all these tweets is making me miss all those old features.

Not everyone misses it though, I guess it must have died out for a reason right?

I think I might just go reopen my Myspace right now.

What are your thoughts? Do you miss Myspace or were you happy to see it go?

16 Great 90’s Rock Bands That You Should Listen To.

Grunge helped to put Rock and Roll back on the map in the 90’s and there were so many bands back then that it could be hard to keep track of them all. With Rage Against The Machine recently announcing a reunion it seems like a good time to remember some of the great bands from the 90’s. This list will contain mostly Grunge bands but will also contain Ska, Punk or any other good rock band that comes to mind. There will be bands everyone knows and a few hardly any of you have heard of but trust me when I say they are all worth checking out.

Rage Against The Machine

Since I already mentioned them above I’ll start with Rage Against The Machine. Formed in 1991 the band would become known for their anti-establishment themed lyrics and were the perfect soundtrack to the teen angst 90s teens were famous for. Fronted by vocalist Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello on guitar, Brad Wilks on drums and back up vocals by Tim Commerford the band was one of the biggest around in the 90s and they’ve been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice so far and I’m certain at some point they’ll actually be inducted.

But the self titled album here

I personally feel that Nirvana is responsible for changing the music industry back in the 90’s, before they hit it big with the song Smells Like Teen Spirit the Billboard charts were filled with artists like Celine Dion,Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey but Nirvana helped to bring rock back into the mainstream and breathed new life into the genre. Fronted by the late, great Kurt Cobain with Dave Grohl on drums and Krist Novoselic on bass the band has garnered legendary status and will always be a huge part of music history. Nirvana broke up in 1994 after the suicide of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl would go on to form the band Foo Fighters who would obtain legend status themselves.

Pearl Jam

Formed in 1990 and fronted by vocalist Eddie Vedder Pearl Jam was one of the many great bands that came out of Seattle in the 90’s and they are right up there with Nirvana as far as bands that helped to change the music industry. Vedder’s vocals were key to the bands success but there was so much talent in this band with Mike McCready on guitar, Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Jeff Ament on bass and drummer Matt Cameron. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and have sold more than 85 million albums worldwide.

Another band out of Seattle Soundgarden was fronted by perhaps the greatest rock vocalist of all time Chris Cornell who was joined by Kim Thayil on guitar, Ben Shepherd on bass and Matt Cameron on drums. The band would break up in 1997 only to reunite in 2010 and remain a band until Cornell’s suicide in 2017 when they would decide not to continue on as Soundgarden without him. They have sold over 25 million albums worldwide. If you’ve never heard Cornell’s cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean you are sorely missing out on an amazing song.

Buy the album Superunknown here

Stone Temple Pilots

Formed in 1989 and fronted by vocalist Scott Weiland Stone Temple Pilots was one of the more popular grunge bands in the 90’s and had their own style I would describe as grunge with a mood disorder. The band would have the same lineup pretty much their whole career with Dean DeLeo on guitar, Robert DeLeo on bass and Eric Kretz on drums. Sadly after a lifelong struggle with drug addiction Scott Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in 2015 and although the band still performs to this day with a new lead singer Jeff Gutt it just isn’t the same to me, Weiland was the heart and soul of the band.

Buy their album Core here

Formed in 1988 the ska punk band Sublime brought its own style and songs impossible not to sing along to. Fronted by vocalist Bradley Nowell the band would have the same lineup for 18 years including Eric Wilson on bass and Bud Gaugh on drums. Sadly in 1996 Nowell died of a heroin overdose and the band probably found more success after his death than they did beforehand. There is the band Sublime With Rome still performing to this day but without Nowell’s great voice and with Gaugh leaving the band it really isn’t even close to the same band and in my opinion shouldn’t be using the name Sublime.

Buy their self titled album here

Formed in 1992 Bush is a British rock band fronted by vocalist Gavin Rossdale, with Robin Goodridge on drums, Chris Traynor on guitar and Corey Britz on bass. Pretty much everyone remembers them for the song Glycerine but they have so many good songs , many of which are much heavier than the songs they chose to release to radio. Although most of their success was found early on in their career they are still together making albums to this day with the most recent being released in 2017 titled Black and White Rainbows. Rossdale was also married to Gwen Stefani for years and years.

Buy their album Sixteen Stone here

Formed in 1991 in Detroit, Michigan Sponge is an alternative rock band that was a large part of the huge alternative rock emergence in the 90’s. although they aren’t as well known as the other bands so far on this list they were just about as popular as the others back when they first came out and although they are still active to this day it seems they will never find the success they did with their first album Rotting Pinata and even that album has pretty much been forgotten about at this point.

Buy their album Rotting Pinata here

Formed in 1993 Korn is credited with bringing the nu metal genre to the forefront and into the mainstream. Fronted by vocalist Jonathan Davis who also plays bagpipes, drummer Ray Luzier, guitarist Brian Welch, rhythm guitarist James Shaffer and Reginald Arvizu on bass the band has no lack of musical talent. The band has sold over 35 million albums worldwide and won 2 Grammy Awards and are still presently active.

Buy their album Greatest Hits Volume 1 here

Nine Inch Nails

Probably the best known industrial rock band to come out of the 90’s Nine Inch Nails is fronted by vocalist Trent Reznor who was the one and only permanent band member up until 2016 when he added Atticus Ross as a permanent fixture. Formed in 1988 in Cleveland, Ohio Nine Inch Nails has sold over 20 million albums and been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, winning two of them. The band has also been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Buy the album Pretty Hate Machine here

Formed in 1995 the band Snot would bring a new heavier style to alternative rock and although they only released the one album Get Some every single song on that album is great and if not for the tragic death of lead singer Lynn Strait in 1998 I believe they’d be a powerhouse in the music industry to this day. One of my favorite bands from the 90’s and they’re responsible for pulling me over to the heavier side of music, if you haven’t heard them you’re missing out.

Buy their album Get Some here

Less of a band and more a one man show Beck defies labels and spans multiple genres of music and was the soundtrack of many of our lives in the 90’s. He has released 13 studio albums to date and has won Grammys for Best Alternative Album and Best Engineered Album and his newest album Hyperspace is set to be released later this month.

Buy his album Hyperspace here

Formed in 1991 while they were all in high school Incubus is fronted by vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger and drummer Jose Pasillas. The band has added member since being formed and still finds success to this day selling over 19 million albums worldwide thus far.

Our Lady Peace

Formed in 1992 the Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace is fronted by vocalist Raine Maida with Duncan Coutts on bass, Steve Mazur on guitar and Jason Pierce on drums. The band has won 4 Juno Awards and is considered one of Canada’s most popular bands to this day. They have released 9 studio albums with the latest being released in 2018 titled Somethingness.

But the album Somethingness here

The Smashing Pumpkins

Formed in 1988 by vocalist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, bassist D’arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin The Smashing Pumpkins is one of those bands that makes me feel nostalgic everytime I hear them. they are still active to this day although they have changed the lineup quite a lot over the years. I can’t listen to the song Mayonnaise with it getting me right in the feels, an absolutely amazing band!

Buy the album Siamese Dream here

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Actually formed in 1983 the Red Hot Chili Peppers would find most of their success in the 90’s and is considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time by many to this day. Fronted by vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer chad smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer the band has sold over 80 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

I’m sure there are lots of bands that I missed as there were so many good ones back in the 90’s when music was still great but these are the bands that predominantly helped shape my youth and teen years.
